As we wrap up the first quarter of the school year, I helped my students reflect on their successes and goals. We used a simple Seesaw assignment that helped them reflect on the kind of reader that they used to be and the kind of reader they are now. It was truly a bright spot in our day as we celebrated each student and how they grew. I am so glad that we took the time to set goals and reflect on them, these meaningful and specific goals in reading have allowed learners to keep growing even in challenging virtual circumstances.
This activity led me to attempt a first quarter reflection. This reflection is something we will be using during our student led conferences. Both of these things are aspects of my in person classroom and I think that they are equally important in our virtual environment and I include them to help foster honest conversations with caregivers and learners. Something new that I included in the reflection is a section that comes straight from our district report card, a section to help students reflect on soft skills. Again, I am so pleased with the students’ honesty and reflection and I think this is a testament to the time and effort we have given to building a caring, reflective and goal oriented learning community.
Credit for this activity goes to my teaching partner Abby Monday, who is the most efficient person I know at creating seesaw assignments!
How are you reflecting and goal setting with your class? I would love to connect about this!
